Municipal Election 2022

Municipal Elections in Ontario are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October. The next municipal election will be held Monday, October 24, 2022. The last municipal election was held on October 22, 2018 and under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the four-year term of office for the current council and school board trustees began December 1, 2018, and ends November 14, 2022.

Persons eligible to vote

A person is entitled to be an elector at an election held in a local municipality if, on voting day, he or she,

(a) resides in the local municipality or is the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;

(b) is a Canadian citizen;

(c) is at least 18 years old; and

(d) is not prohibited from voting under subsection (3) or otherwise by law. 2002, c. 17, Sched. D, s. 5 (2); 2005, c. 5, s. 46 (1).

Persons prohibited from voting

The following are prohibited from voting:

1. A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution.

2. A corporation.

3. A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy in accordance with section 44.

4. A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90 (3), if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted.

Are you registered to vote?

You can check, update and confirm that your information is accurately recorded for upcoming municipal elections by visiting voterlookup.ca. You can login using your full name, date of birth and property address or assessment roll number.

The databases for municipal elections are separate from those used for provincial elections. This means that you must update your information through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for the municipal election. Updating this information will help to ensure that municipal Voters’ Lists are accurate and up-to-date in preparation for municipal and school board elections to be held in October 2022.

How will I vote? 

Vote by Internet or Telephone

The 2022 Township of Hornepayne Municipal & School Board Elections offer the convenience and independence of voting from anywhere via internet or telephone starting on October 14, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. right through to election day, October 24, 2022 at 8:00 p.m.

Each eligible voter will receive a Voter Information Letter at the end of September that will provide a PIN number that will enable them to cast their ballots.

There is no paper ballot available for the 2022 election. Voters can use any internet connected computer, mobile device, or telephone to cast their ballot. The voting website and telephone number will be printed on your Voter Information Letter. Voter Assistance Centres will be open during the Voting Period to assist voters with adding or correcting their information on the Voters' List and casting their ballots. A list of Voter Assistance Centres will be printed on the Voter Information Letter and will be available on our website.

Who can I vote for?

In the Township of Hornepayne, residents and property owners can vote for and elect candidates to fill the following positions every four years:

One School Board Trustee - English-Public
One School Board Trustee - English-Separate
One School Board Trustee - French-Public
One School Board Trustee - French-Separate
