Vote on Ideas to Build Ontario Up for Everyone
Up to $3 Million Available to Implement Voter-selected Proposals
Ontario is inviting the public to vote on ideas they would like to see implemented in the 2017 Budget to help people in their everyday lives by strengthening communities and improving public services.
Voting is now open through Budget Talks, an innovative online consultation that allows the public to help shape policies and programs that will be part of Ontario's future.
The ideas posted on Budget Talks for public voting support eight focus areas including increasing access to child care, support for Ontario's small businesses, making health care easier to access and identifying priority infrastructure projects.
Visit Ontario.ca/Budgettalks to vote for your three favourite ideas until midnight, February 23, 2017. The top-voted ideas will be announced as part of the upcoming 2017 Budget.
Engaging the people of Ontario in the budget process is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
•More than 400 ideas were submitted through this year’s Budget Talks consultation. Ideas were reviewed by the Premier’s Council on Youth Opportunities, a group of young professionals and leaders who provide advice to government.
•The government has allocated up to $3 million to fund up to eight ideas, making Ontario the first province to commit to funding ideas from the public as part of its budget process.
•Through the 2016 Budget Talks, Ontarians suggested replacing traditional lighting with energy-saving LED lights on provincial highway corridors. As a result, the government launched a mast lighting pilot project, starting at Renforth Drive and running west along Highway 401 for 1.1 kilometres.
